Nevada Type-3 Incident Management Team#1

Start Date: 7/25/2024
Cause: Lightning
Size: 1428
Completion/Containment: 0%
91 Total Personnel; 2 Engines; 3 Hand Crews; 1 Heavy Equipment

CURRENT STATUS - Nevada Team 1, a Type Three Incident Management Team, started on the Johnson Fire as of 6am today. Firefighting modules are continuing to buffer the indirect fire lines using burnouts. Crews will also be improving a contingency line that was constructed for the previous 2017 Myers Fire that is adjacent to the community of Springer Memorial. These operations will be near the community but should not impact normal activities. The contingency line is not a primary or alternate line for the Johnson Fire, meaning it is not currently part of the direct or indirect fire strategy, but is put in to improve defensible space for the community.
Yesterday, smoke was visible from burn-offs conducted just northeast of the fire. However, the primary cause of smoke in the area is coming from Incidents throughout the western United States, including the Wye and Wapiti Fires in Idaho. Check out the Fire and Smoke Map (airnow.gov) for more information on air quality.

WEATHER - Fire activity has picked up due to hot dry weather and low relative humidity (Rh), allowing the fire to start backing towards East Fork. Weather will continue to be hot and dry through the weekend with low Rh recovery overnight.

CLOSURES - A closure order (24-D2-0) from the Forest Service went into effect 8/30/2024 at 0600 for the area surrounding the Johnson Fire. THIS IS NOT AN EVACUATION NOTICE. The closure order closes Forest Service roads and trails in and surrounding the fire for public safety and to allow firefighters and crews to conduct their work without interference. If evacuation notices are issued, the Ravalli County Sherriff’s Office will notify residents. Currently, there are no evacuation warnings or orders in effect for the Johnson Fire.
