Joint Press Release: Ochoco National Forest and Prineville District BLM Reduce Crazy Creek Fire Area Closure
Prineville, Ore., August 14, 2024— The Ochoco National Forest, in coordination with the Prineville District of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), has reduced the closure area surrounding the Crazy Creek Fire, effective immediately, due to increased fire containment. This reduction allows for safe access to areas that were previously restricted.
Both the Forest Service and the Prineville District BLM continue to closely monitor conditions and will seek further opportunities to safely reduce the closure area as fire containment progresses.
The public is reminded that certain lands, roads, trails, and recreation areas within the updated Crazy Creek Fire closure area remain off-limits. A detailed map and description of the closure area is available on the Forest Service and BLM websites, as well as at Forest and BLM offices. Closure signs are posted on the ground in affected areas.
The nation is currently at Preparedness Level 5 (PL5), the highest level of wildfire response, indicating that resources are stretched thin across the country, making it challenging to respond quickly to new fires.
The public is urged to respect the closure and avoid entering restricted areas. Compliance is critical for public safety and the effectiveness of firefighting operations. Non-compliance could endanger lives and hinder firefighting efforts.
All public lands in Central Oregon, including those managed by the Ochoco National Forest and the Prineville District BLM, remain under Stage 2 Public Use (Fire) Restrictions. All open flames, including woodstoves and charcoal briquette fires, are prohibited.
