SUPPRESSION OBJECTIVES: The Ore Fire and the Pyramid Fire are managed under a full suppression strategy to protect values at risk, including the Middle Santiam Wilderness and private timberlands. Firefighters are building direct fire line where possible and strategic indirect containment line as needed.

CURRENT SITUATION:  Fire behavior increased yesterday due to high temperatures, low humidity, and dry fuels. This trend will most likely continue through Sunday and as fuels dry, fire behavior may increase and smoke could be noticeable from Highway 126. Firefighters directly attacked a spot fire on the Ore Fire and a task force of resources, including two engines and a type one helicopter from the Pyramid Fire, assisted Deschutes National Forest in their response to a new start near the border of the Deschutes and Willamette National Forests. On both fires, progress was maintained in reducing fuels on fire lines which will mitigate wildfire spread if fire activity continues to increase. The Forest Service hosted a virtual meeting to update the public about the fires which can be viewed online.

Ore Fire: 7 miles Northeast of Blue River, 3,175 acres, 30% contained, 629 total personnel, human caused.  Firefighters on the Ore Fire continued removing fuels and engaging fires that they discovered near the fire line. At 1230 PM, incident personnel sighted smoke from a spot fire that had crossed the fire line on the northwest flank. Firefighters used three single engine air tankers and two helicopters to drop water on the fire and stopped its progress. Crews built fire line and laid fire hose around the ten-acre spot fire. Patrols also discovered and successfully suppressed a hot spot and a burning snag. Incident personnel worked through the night to monitor the spot fire and reinforce containment line.

Pyramid Fire: East of Middle Santiam Wilderness, 1,312 Acres, 98% contained, 220 total personnel, lightning caused. Early in the day, Pyramid Fire personnel spotted a new fire start in the Deschutes National Forest. Two engine crews and helicopters assigned to the Pyramid Fire responded, engaging the fire alongside Deschutes National Forest fire crews. On the Pyramid Fire, firefighters continued to remove brush and other fuels from roads, improving their ability to serve as fire lines if fire activity increases.
