SUPPRESSION OBJECTIVES: The Ore Fire and the Pyramid Fire remain under a full suppression strategy to protect values at risk, including the Middle Santiam Wilderness and private timberlands. Firefighters are building direct fire line where possible, and strategic indirect containment line as needed.
CURRENT SITUATION: The weekend is expected to stay at higher temperatures and lower humidities as weather conditions present fire spread potential. Heavy fuels are holding heat throughout the fires and firefighters could see some flare-ups. The public may notice an increase of visible smoke from both fires. With deer season opening and the long weekend from the Labor Day holiday, the public is advised to be extra vigilant with an increase of traffic from fire personnel and recreationists on Highway 126 and Highway 20 corridors.
Ore Fire: 7 miles Northeast of Blue River, 3,213 acres, 35% contained, 603 total personnel, human caused. Unmanned aerial systems provided imagery to assist operations in the Waterfall drainage to secure unburned islands. A spot fire from the previous day was reported at twelve to fifteen acres. Crews fully lined the fire and then put fire hoses around the entire perimeter. Work still remains with expected fire weather ahead. Night crews will engage as conditions allow, making sure to provide for firefighter safety first.
Pyramid Fire: East of Middle Santiam Wilderness, 1,312 Acres, 98% contained, 216 total personnel, lightning caused. A new start was reported near Echo Mountain. Identified initial attack firefighters were staged and ready to assist. These ground resources were not needed to engage as responding parties were adequate and returned to the Pyramid fire. Masticating and chipping of material are ongoing efforts.
