Current Situation: As of 6:00 p.m. on August 13, 2024, California Interagency Incident Management Team 14 has assumed command of the Lodgepole Fire. The fire is currently estimated at 5 acres and burning in the Norse Peak Wilderness, north of Highway 410 near the Lodgepole Campground, located within the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest.

The Lodgepole Fire is currently located approximately ½ mile north of Highway 410 and burning within the Norse Fire burn scar which is filled with dead standing hazard trees and large down debris. The terrain is also very rugged and steep which presents challenges to firefighters making access. The fire is threatening multiple privately owned cabins in nearby Forest Service recreational residence cabin tracts along with the Lodgepole Campground.

Firefighters and aircraft have been engaged in starting suppression efforts since the fire was reported Monday afternoon. Crews have made access to the fire, started direct fire line construction, and have begun precautions to protect structures that are currently threatened. Today, firefighters will work to build direct line and start to anchor the southern edge to prevent further spread toward Highway 410. The large amount of hazard trees and dead material in the area are a significant safety concern for firefighters. Crews are having to remove these hazard trees as they make access to construct their control lines. Crews are also continuing their work to assess and clear areas around threatened structures. Aircraft will continue to assist ground crews today as the weather allows.

At this time Highway 410 remains open for travel. Please use caution in the area due to smoke impacts as well as firefighters and emergency equipment working along the highway.

Weather: With a low-pressure trough approaching the west coast today, winds will shift and start coming from the southeast later today. Winds will be moderated compared to the last couple of days. There is little change in minimum humidity (30-40%) and temperatures (mid-60’s) over the fire area from yesterday.
