Shoofly Fire Update- July 10, 2024
The Shoofly Fire located on the Wenatchee River Ranger District, roughly 25 miles west of Lake Wenatchee, WA is burning on the southeast slope of Shoofly Mountain in steep terrain. The Shoofly Fire is estimated at 101 acres (corrected acreage) and is burning in sub-alpine fir and an older burn scar along the western flank of the fire.
The fire made minimal movement today and is being held in place by a combination of firefighting efforts and fuel conditions. Crews will continue securing the fire perimeter utilizing minimal impact suppression tactics and aircraft operations.
More crews have arrived at the fire to expedite fireline construction and help support new emerging fires. There are currently 110 firefighters assigned in addition to aerial resources.
The cause of the fire is undetermined.
Road Closures: The 6701 Road that accesses the Top Lake and Heather Lake Trails, is closed at the junction with the 6700 Rainy Creek Road. The 6700 Smithbrook/Rainy Creek Road will remain open.
Trail and Campground Closures: The Top Lake Trail #1506, Heather Lake Trail #1526 and Minotaur Lake Trail #1517 are closed. The closure notification has been posted at key junctions and trailheads warning of fire activity and trail closures. Rainy Campground is closed.
The Pacific Crest Trail is open and not threatened at this time but is located about 2 miles west of the fire.
Recreationists are asked to avoid this area to allow firefighters to work safely, and follow the updates campfire and personal use restrictions, which have been upgraded to Stage 1.
A red flag warning is in place for hot temperatures, wind and low humidity in the Central Cascades through Wednesday evening.
