Highlighted Activity
The Limepoint Fire is north of Oxbow Dam in Adams County, Idaho and was started by lightning on July 24th, burning in tall grass, brush and timber. The southern part of the fire was once a smaller, separate fire named the Oxbow Fire, but both fires burned together and are now collectively known as the Limepoint Fire. The fire is east of the Snake River and has spread northeast.
Communities including Cuprum, Bear, Calf Pen, Barber Flats and Wildhorse that had been evacuated per the Adams County Sheriff’s Office have been allowed to return to their homes. The Payette National Forest issued a Forest Closure to protect public safety during the Limepoint and Cliff Mountain wildfires. The closure includes, but is not limited to the following recreation areas: Sheep Rock, Kinney Point and Horse Mountain Lookout is closed. Fuels Involved | South, west, and east-facing slopes are characterized by moderate to heavy fuel loads of tall grasses and some continuous areas of brush and timber. Drainage bottoms and north-facing slopes have dense mixed conifer stands. Sparsely vegetated ridges and rocky outcroppings at higher elevations help to restrict fire spread.
|
Significant Events | Fire continues to smolder and creep with frequent single tree torching. Live woody vegetation under tree canopies are available to burn only when multiple alignment factors occur. Dry conditions and warmer temperatures has allowed unburned islands on the interior of the fire to consume more fuels without threatening containment lines. |
Planned Actions |
Mop up along containment lines focusing on areas with the highest potential to threaten the line. Shift from mop up to patrol areas that show diminishing threat potential. Continue suppression repair efforts working from the south side of the fire toward the north. |
---|---|
Projected Incident Activity |
Current strategies include improving and strengthening containment lines. Suppression repair is underway where appropriate. The fire is spread through steep, rugged terrain on the east side of Hells Canyon. |
Weather Concerns | Intermittent showers/thunderstorms are expected this morning through 1500. Winds will be variable near showers and storms. The potential for strong winds lower, as the chance for wetting rain increases. Temperatures start to rise Wednesday through Saturday in response to a strong high-pressure ridge. Dry conditions and light winds prevail, which could yield more smoke across the region. |
