The Remington Fire started in Sheridan County, Wyoming and quickly moved into multiple counties in SE Montana.
The fire is impacting Sheridan County, Wyoming, and Powder River, Big Horn, and Rosebud Counties in Montana. Other populations at risk from the fire include those in the southeastern portion of the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation and the communities of Quietus, Otter, and Birney. The fire has burned into the Custer National Forest.
Management of the fire was transitioned to the Southwest Area Complex Incident Management Team 5 at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday August 25, 2024.

Warm and dry weather supported smoldering and creeping fire activity in sheltered timbered stands, primarily along the Northern portion of the fire. Hot and dry conditions will increase the potential for new starts from suppression and repair activities. |

12 hours: Hot, dry, and windy conditions will elevate potential fire behavior. Interior fuels will continue to consume and spread through any available fuels. Minimal heat and fuels exists which will reduce the potential threat to containment lines. 24 hours: Sustained warm and dry conditions will persist keeping fuels moistures low and available to support active fire behavior. Interior pockets in timbered stands will continue to consume. |

Weather Concerns | Southeast winds steadily decreased throughout the day with sustained speeds from 8-12 mph with peak gusts observed in the Poor-moderate overnight relative humidity recovery is expected tonight into tomorrow with winds shifting to the southwest from 5-10 mph by 2100. High pressure will begin to weaken by midday tomorrow, with high temperatures dropping a few degrees and winds coming from the northwest at 8-11 mph with gusts 18-20 mph through the day. |
