Round 3 Fire reaches 100% containment; Sand Stone close behindDaily Update – Thursday, August 8, 2024Highlights: Successful firefighting efforts on the ground, in combination with aviation support, lower temperatures, and light precipitation, resulted in 100% containment of the Round 3 Fire and 96% containment of the Sand Stone Fire. Firefighters continue to operate through the night to increase containment on all other fires while also remaining available for initial attack of any new fire starts.

Fire Update:Boosted by additional resources, super scoopers, and helicopters, fire crews made good progress slowing fire spread and reinforcing containment lines on the lightning-caused fires across the Tonto National Forest. On Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024, Southwest Incident Management Team 4 will assume command of the Clair, Bartlett and Sheep fires and will provide information on those fires in their daily update.

Fire crews continued to work on the lightning caused wildfires across the Forest, aided by airtankers, scoopers and helicopters. Additional resources are on order to assist the Tonto National Forest. The Forest is prioritizing the incidents based on threats to communities and infrastructure. The main fires to highlight are: Tonto Basin Ranger District
