Williams Mine Fire Update for Tuesday, September 3, 2024 The Williams Mine Fire continued to spread yesterday in the Mt. Adams Wilderness near Morrison Creek. The fire consumed down logs and other fuels on the ground, with gusty winds pushing the fire to the east. The fire has crossed Morrison Creek, but is west of the South Climb Trail. Scooper airplanes and a “heavy” helicopter dropped water on the fire to slow it’s spread.

Williams Mine Fire Update for Monday, September 2, 2024The Williams Mine Fire burned actively yesterday in the Mt. Adams Wilderness near Morrison Creek. The fire continued to consume fuels on the ground and has mostly spread to the north and west the last few days, burning into the upper reaches of Shorthorn and Crofton creeks. Late Sunday, winds shifted as a front started moving through the area, pushing the fire toward the east.

Williams Mine Fire Update for Saturday, August 31, 2024The Williams Mine Fire continues to show pockets of active burning as temperatures rise and fuels dry out. Observations from the ground and by air are finding these areas are on the interior of the fire or on the northern edge in the Mt. Adams Wilderness, not threatening containment lines. The fire is consuming ground fuels and reducing the probability of catastrophic fires in the future.

Williams Mine Fire Update for Friday, August 30, 2024Smoke was visible from the Williams Mine Fire yesterday as drying fuels and warmer temperatures led to more active burning. An aerial reconnaissance flight found the area creating the most smoke is on the north side of the fire, in the wilderness area between Morrison and Shorthorn creeks. It is not threatening any containment lines. Fire personnel plan to wrap the Morrison Shelter and do work near the South Climb trailhead in case the fire moves toward them.

Williams Mine Fire Update for Thursday, August 29, 2024The USFS issued a revised closure order for Williams Mine Fire yesterday. FS RD 23 south of FS Rd 90 is still CLOSED to the public due to fire suppression activity. The section north of the FS Rd 23/FS Rd 90 junction has reopened. This will allow traffic between Trout Lake and Randle via FS Rd 90 and FS Rd 88.

Williams Mine Fire Update for Wednesday, August 28, 2024 KEY MESSAGES:A local Type 3 Incident Management Team assumed command of the Williams Mine Fire as of 6 p.m. yesterday. This team will continue the work done by Northwest Team 13 to secure the fire, keeping it from spreading to the south and east. The focus will continue to be achieving incident objectives in a safe and efficient manner.CURRENT STATUS:

Williams Mine Fire Update for Tuesday, August 27, 2024KEY MESSAGES:Complex Incident Management Team Northwest 13, which has been managing the Williams Mine Fire since August 9th, will transfer command of the incident tonight at 6:00 p.m.  The fire will be managed by a local Type 3 Incident Management organization predominantly assembled from the local area.

Williams Mine Fire Update for Monday, August 26, 2024KEY MESSAGES:In the coming days, some of the closures and restrictions in the areas around the Williams Mine Fire will be reduced and some rescinded. As closures change, the public is asked to ensure they follow existing closure information as firefighters will still be working in the area. Many roads and trails will continue to have staff working around them and road guards on closed roads will still be present.

Williams Mine Fire Update for Sunday, August 25, 2024 KEY MESSAGES:As mission objectives continue to be met, firefighters and support equipment will begin demobilizing from the incident. As containment increases, hoses and other fire suppression equipment are being backhauled off the fire line. This equipment will be staged at a central location, returned to the fire cache, and become available for other priority incidents.
