Umpqua National Forest Reduces Closures 08-21-2024

Effective today, Wednesday, August 21, 2024, closure order number 06-15-24-06 has been issued that includes some exceptions from the previous closure order number 06-15-24-05. Additionally, on the Tiller Ranger District starting at 12:01 am, Thursday, August 22, 2024, the Dixon Fire closure order number 06-15-02-24-02 will be rescinded and select roads will be in an administrative closure as firefighters continue to work in the area. This new closure is still impacting parts of the North Umpqua, Diamond Lake, and Cottage Grove Ranger Districts. The Tiller Ranger District is mostly open. Popular recreation sites that were closed but are now open include:
- Lemolo Falls, Howlock Mountain, and Toketee Falls Trails,
- Maidu segment of the North Umpqua Trail
- Access to Mount Bailey from the Hemlock Butte Trailhead, and
- Clearwater Falls, Whitehorse, Toketee Lake, Toketee Lake Group, Poole Creek, East Lemolo, Inlet, Kelsey Valley, Canton Creek, Cedar Creek, Lund Park, and Hobo Camp Campgrounds.

Order number 06-15-24-06 is in effect through January 15, 2025, unless rescinded sooner. Some popular recreation sites that are still closed to the public include:
- Bunker Hill Campground
- Bohemia Mining District
- Umpqua Hot Springs
- Watson Falls
- Mt. Thielsen Trail
- Boulder Flat Campground, Trailhead, and Boat Launch
- Steamboat Falls Campground
With recreation areas reopening, the forest asks visitors to slow down and obey posted speed limits, as firefighters continue to work in many areas across the forest. Additionally, visitors are reminded that the forest is in Very High Fire Danger and Public Use Restrictions are set at Level 3, which means that campfires are restricted to commercial campfires solely pressurized by liquid fuel or propane, within Forest Service developed recreation sites. https://bit.ly/3xIZZdK
