Homestead Complex Fire Update for Wednesday, August 28, 2024
No Man, Salmon 33, Horse Heaven Creek, Bullpup, Fuller Lake, Reynold’s Butte, Lost Bucket
Start date: July 19, 2024 | Location: Northeast of Glide, Oregon | Total Personnel: 889 Total Homestead Complex Fire size: 5,909 acres | Cause: Lightning | Containment: 50%
Summary
Yesterday, a weather system moved into the fire area and brought cooler temperatures and higher relative humidities, which makes for optimal fire suppression, however higher wind speed moved into the area as well. Crews were able to take advantage of the cooler weather and hold lines with the increased wind speed. Hotter and drier conditions are forecasted for today through Saturday, increasing critical fire weather. However, with all the hard work, and previous good weather, fire behavior remains minimal and in a holding pattern. It will take significant hot and dry conditions for an extended period to increase fire behavior at this point.
No Man (2,076 acres): Suppression repair has started on the fire, with mop-up continuing along the south perimeter, and monitoring overall. The fire perimeter is looking cold on the edges with smoldering in the drainages and interior.
Horse Heaven Creek Fire (2,296 ac.): Direct fireline was completed at end of shift yesterday on the northwest corner of the fire. Chipping continues along primary and secondary control lines to remove heavy fuels.
Bullpup Fire (476 ac.) and Fuller Lake Fire (418 ac.): Progress continues as Hotshot crews advance direct line along the north end of the fire. Completion of this direct control line is expected to be finished by end of shift today. On Fuller Lake Fire efforts are to continue with direct and indirect control line, and continued removal of heavy fuels and logs.
Salmon 33 (275 ac.) 100% contained on August 24, 2024.
Reynolds Butte Fire (334 ac): 100% contained on August 22, 2024.
Lost Bucket Fire (34 ac.): 100% contained on July 29, 2024.
Weather: High temperatures Wednesday reaching 80 degrees, with a minimum relative humidity of 20%. NNE wind 6-10. Gust in the teens.
