Homestead Complex Fire Update for Saturday, August 31, 2024
No Man, Salmon 33, Horse Heaven Creek, Bullpup, Fuller Lake, Reynold’s Butte, Lost Bucket
Start date: July 19, 2024 | Location: Northeast of Glide, Oregon | Total Personnel: 740 Total Homestead Complex Fire size: 5,910 acres | Cause: Lightning | Containment: 60%
Summary
A high-pressure system dominates the atmosphere, causing unseasonably high temperatures. Last night a thermal belt, or inversion layer, laid over the fire area, keeping surface temperatures warmer, affecting overnight relative humidity recovery. This will affect overall fire activity in open canopies, and within lighter fuels. Expected fire growth is less than two feet per hour, but it will be limited by direct fire suppression lines. Crews continue securing, patrolling, and finishing up containment throughout the fire area.
No Man (2,076 acres): Crews are putting the final touches on indirect line today, mopping up in the south, and securing control lines.
Horse Heaven Creek Fire (2,298 ac.): Mastication work and chipping is complete on the Ridge Road west of the fire, and heavy equipment is being pulled off the line. On the northern perimeter, crews continue work securing containment and extinguishing hot spots with helicopter water drops. Active fire spread is expected in areas of unsecured line and in interior pockets, causing more smoke than seen in past few days.
Bullpup Fire (476 ac.) and Fuller Lake Fire (418 ac.): Containment increased on the northern perimeter of Bullpup Fire as Hotshots made great progress. Efforts today will be extinguishing areas with lingering heat, chipping containment lines, hauling away vegetation, and patrolling.
Salmon 33 (275 ac.) 100% contained on August 24, 2024.
Reynolds Butte Fire (334 ac): 100% contained on August 22, 2024.
Lost Bucket Fire (34 ac.): 100% contained on July 29, 2024.
Weather: Today’s high temperature will hit 90 degrees, with relative humidities reaching as low as 18%. Overnight recoveries were poor to moderate at 42%. Winds NW 3-6.
