Speirs Fire Update
August 6, 2024
Current Status - The Speirs Fire remains at 715 acres and 97 percent contained.
Updates - The temporary fire closure has been renewed for Greens Draw Road, Lowline Trail and Pipe Creek Trail through August 31. The closure will allow for the completion of continency line and provide for public safety during construction. Fire management officials emphasize the importance of this action. “The contingency line is an integral part of our protection efforts not only from the Speirs Fire, but against future fire starts,” said Flaming Gorge District Ranger Bryan Wilson. “We recognize the current, temporary impacts of the closure, but the benefits of the fuels break will last for many years.”
Wetting rain has been received over the fire area over the weekend, with anticipated chances of precipitation occurring over the next several days.
Fire activity remains minimal. However, as conditions dry, smoke may be visible as interior green pockets of fuel continue to burn within the fire’s perimeter.
As conditions on the fire remain somewhat static, updates on the Speirs Fire may no longer be daily. Periodic updates will be provided as the fire situation changes.
Closures - The following roads and trails remain closed to public access.
- Forest Service Roads (FSR) 610 and FSR049 (Greens Draw Road)
- Segments of National Forest System (NFS) Trails: Lowline Trail 103, beginning at its junction with the Pipe Creek Trail, NFS Trail 003, and continuing to the trailhead at Hwy 191; NFS Trail 003, beginning at its junction with NFS Trail 103 and continuing to its junction with NFS Trail 004; and NFS Trail 004, beginning at the junction with NFS Trail and continuing its intersection with Greens Draw Road 049.
