Drip Torch Preparation Field Video Falls and Telephone Fires

Falls & Telephone Fires Update: Firing Operations Continue

Public Information Officer Shaynee Slate captured these incredible images during evening and night firing operations on the Falls and Telephone Fires.

Firing operations are ongoing to secure portions of the containment lines. This controlled tactic allows firefighters to bring the fire to more manageable locations, such as road systems, dozer lines, and handlines. Ground crews use drip torches along road systems, while Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), or drones, are deployed to ignite interior areas that are difficult to access. UAS enhance safety and efficiency during these critical operations.

Telephone Fire: Although some portions of the Telephone Fire experienced variable winds yesterday, crews continued firing operations near the 855 and 2820 Roads on the southwest side of the earlier King Mountain spread. Crews also used UAS for aerial ignition of unburned fuels to increase containment depth and remove fuels that contribute to continued fire activity.

Falls/Sand Mountain Fires: Yesterday, resources had ongoing success holding the burnout operations that took place over several days on the northeast corner of the Falls and Sand Mountain Fires. Crews also conducted limited burn out operations on the 31 Road while conditions remained favorable.

Video and photos taken behind the fireline on July 17 show firefighters on the ground working in tandem with aircraft above to slow the Falls Fire's advance along the southeastern edge. Their and others' efforts have resulted in control lines that suppression personnel will strengthen and patrol in the coming days.

Falls Fire continues its growth to the northeast, approaching and spotting over FSR 31.
