There are many support positions that assist firefighting operations, including Incident Meteorologists or IMETs. Yesterday IMETs from the National Weather Service (NWS) launched a weather balloon at the Manson Incident Command Post to help assess atmospheric conditions over the Pioneer, Easy, and Flat fires. The data collected from these balloon launches helps meteorologists develop detailed and location specific forecasts that are critical for anticipating changes in fire activity. This information helps firefighters and air operations personnel more safely and effectively manage the fires.
