The Rapid Extraction Module Support (REMS) team on the Homestead Complex includes 4 fireline-qualified paramedics and EMTs with extensive technical rescue training. A REMS team, strategically stationed at wildland fires, plays a pivotal role in prioritizing swift access to injured or ill firefighters for safe and efficient egress off the fireline. They use a UTV with patient transport capabilities to ensure a rapid transport to medical care. They are an invaluable part of protecting firefighter safety and well-being.
A helicopter carries a bucket of water suspended below it on a cable. The bucket has a release valve on the bottom controlled by the helicopter crew. The design of the bucket allows the helicopter to hover over a water source and lower the bucket to refill it. When the helicopter is in position, the crew releases the water to help cool hot spots on the fire below. Each release of the water is referred to as a drop.
